A Look at The Different Ways to Make Money Online

The Internet by nature is a very open platform and there are endless ways to make money with your imagination being the only limiting factor but lets look at the most common methods used that have been proven to be successful.

A Look at The Different Ways to Make Money OnlineInternet incomes generally require far less investment when compared to traditional brick and mortar business and as a result the barrier to entry is virtually non existent. This has resulted in a huge amount of competition and vast pools of knowledge and information to deal with however the market is HUGE so there is always room for a little more competition. Lets look at some of the common ways to make money online;

Website Flipping

The idea is simple, build a website and sell it. Most web site flipping is done around micro sites focusing on a niche. The site is built and populated with content before being sold. Often sites will be sold almost instantly although many website flippers prefer to get the initial traffic and income going so that the site can fetch a better price. Head over to Flippa to get some examples.

Google AdSense Websites

Monetized content sites are one of the most common ways to make money online and probably the easiest starting points for newcomers. AdSense is an easy to integrate contextual advertising network which handles most of the complex technical details for the publisher. All you need to do is build a website with useful content and place the adverts on the site, each click through earns you money. The amount of money you can earn is very much proportional to the sites traffic but once you have good traffic numbers it can be a real money maker.

Affiliate Marketing and CPA

Not entirely the same thing but for simplicity sake I will bundle them together, here you are choosing to market a specific product or service in return for a commission on either the sales or actions taken. The process is very similar to real world marketing and you will get the best return if you build lists and leverage direct marketing tactics although you will still end up building a website and generating sales there in most cases.

Product Creation

Selling other peoples products and making a commission is great but the real money goes to the people making the products, creating your own e-book or a website that offers a unique billable service is a sure way to rake in the money. It requires a bit more knowledge and will benefit from minimal investment but eventually most experienced Internet Marketers go down this road.

Service offerings

Many services do not require a physical presence and offering these services on the web is a great way to make money, in fact many full time workers will often supplement their primary income by offering services online after hours. There are great markets for content creation, article writing, video creation or editing, graphics editing, link building, forum posting, blog commenting and more. You will be surprised by how much money you could make simply by designing logos or letterheads for businesses.

You might have noticed that these are all methods I discussed over the last weeks but I decided a summary page would be helpful for the ADHD types like myself that prefer cliff notes.

A Thought on Monetizing PLR Articles

Having read hundreds of debates around PLR articles and the duplicate content google hammer I decided to test the issue for myself and proceeded to set up a website to test the theory, the results will probably surprise you.

A Thought on Monetizing PLR Articles

The question I wanted to answer was quite simple, can PLR articles rank without being rewritten, I will admit that I already had an answer in mind before starting out and merely wanted to confirm it for myself. In my experience duplicate content can rank but this needed to be confirmed so I went ahead and settled on a niche, registered the domain, wrote 5 unique articles, added 20 PLR articles which I did not rewrite or alter in any way and took care of all my on site SEO. I followed my standard formula for new websites;

Day 1:

Submitted my sitemaps to Google, Bing, Yahoo and Yandex.Verified myself as the owner on WOTTook care of the directory submissions I deem worthwhileSubmitted to ~2000 website evaluation sitesPinged all and sundry

Day 2:

Created 50 profile backlinksCreated Squidoo LensCreated HubpageSubmitted ArticlesDid not ping (NB)

Day 3

Blog CommentingForum CommentingDid not ping (NB)

By the second day pages were already appearing in the index but it was only by the 4th day that the PLR pages started showing up in the index, I waited another 10 days before checking up on the site again and found that only 2 of the pages had not been indexed so I built some back links to those specific pages and they were indexed shortly afterwards.

So with all the pages indexed it was time to look at the ranking situation, I had picked a fairly competitive niche but I would be happy with a top 20 ranking. I spent another 4 days building links and doing some article promotion and decided to leave it at that for another month before looking at the site again at which point it ranked 19th for the primary keyword.

Now this may not entirely prove or disprove any arguments about duplicate content but it certainly does raise some interesting questions, and no I will not disclose the site since it will just attract jealous sabotaging punks and yes the site is already generating income in fact it made its first dollar on the 4th day it was live.

Building Back Links by Looking at the Competition

Building back links can be time consuming and finding suitable places to get your links in can take up the better portion of your day but there are some ways to find good back link ideas quickly however I do feel obliged to a attach a no spam disclaimer to this post by simply saying that I do not advocate spam in any way but I believe that unless you have 12 months or longer to sit around waiting for some search engine love you will need to build your own back links and looking at the competition can save you a lot of time.

Building Back Links by Looking at the CompetitionA tool to make things easier

Firstly grab any SEO tool that allows you see the back links to a specific site, I am sure you already have your favorite but if not you can use something like Chrome SEO which is one of the best tools available if you are looking for quick information. This tool allows you to see the back link counts and page rank of a page you are currently visiting at the click of a button.

Snooping on the competition

Well it might be unfair to call it snooping since the information is public knowledge but it is very powerful information that you can use to eventually beat out your competition. The idea is really simple, search for your targeted keyword and start looking at the pages that rank in the top 10 results. You can extend this to 20 or more if you have a competitive niche but lets focus on 10 for the time being.

Using your SEO tool you will be able to see where the back links to the site come from and by visiting the pages in question you will even be able to get ideas about the keyword targeting of your competitor by examining the anchor text used for the links. From here on you simply need to build links in the locations where it makes sense based on what your competitor has learnt for you.

The Value of the method

Your competitor has basically done all the research for you, they have found relevant content in some cases and most importantly they have found dofollow links. You have just saved yourself a considerable amount of time by learning from your enemy. Another key piece of knowledge you have gained from this particularly with blog posts is knowing which webmasters are letting subtle spam through the comment filters. Not all bloggers will approve comments that do not contain a proper name so knowing which webmasters and bloggers allow keyword anchors in the name field is incredibly valuable information.

Pro Tip

Keep a list of the decent link building opportunities you discover so that you are able to save even more time in the future by being able to refer to your list instead of looking at the competitors in as much detail. I normally have a standard list to work off and then look at the competitors for relevant linking opportunities.

Online Money Making Ideas for Newbies without Capital to Invest

Not everybody is in position to invest a lot of money in their online start up and sometimes you need a few ways to generate your first income streams which you can reinvest into the bigger and more profitable ideas.

Online Money Making Ideas for Newbies without Capital to InvestSome of the methods listed here can result in quick cash while others might take a few months to start showing returns so I suggest working on 2-3 of the ideas if you are able to spare the time and since none of these ideas are particularly time intensive you will be able to do them in the evenings if you still have a day job. In fact if you think carefully you will surely find a way for all 3 ideas to overlap and provide some synergy towards a common niche or product.

Remember if you currently have no income you should still continue searching for a job since you cannot predict how long it will take for your Internet income to start paying the bills

Micro Services

Offering micro services online can generate income quickly and if you provide decent service you will be able to make quite a bit of money from it, consider things like writing articles and blog posts or offering manual directory submission services. If you look at Fiverr you will see hundreds of ideas for making some quick money and marketing your services is fairly easy if you use Fiverr or list your services on forums with trade categories.

Create an Adsense Blog

There is no shortage of free blogging services and if you are using blogger AdSense is very easy to integrate, this is definitely a more long term strategy since you will first need approval and it takes time for the traffic to build up but you can build a nice recurring income to help fund other ideas you have or even to supplement your day job income. You can also promote affiliate products with your blog.

Build an affiliate marketing site without investment

There are several free hosting and domain options available, using a host like 0000free with a Free Domain as discussed earlier this week is not the best way to deal with your hosting and domain but it is free and reasonable enough for a start. Find a single product to promote and stick to it, you can build a basic web site with very little knowledge and push the product from there. Since you don’t have all the money in the world try promoting the product offline as well by handing out some flyers which I am sure you can find a way to get for free. Use the local notice boards in your area and instead of having phone number strips to pull off have your website address. Domains and Hosting are actually pretty cheap so make the investment with your first earnings.

General Tips for the early days

Diversify, yes the sniper focus is needed later to make big money but in the beginning you are still learning and the sooner you find something that sticks the betterStart building e-mail lists early, the sooner the betterUse article marketing and build lenses, it is free and it worksNever stop promoting, forum signatures, e-mail signatures, anything that gets trafficPick high demand niches where you know there will be lots of moneySocial networking is free marketing, get stuck in on day 1Never give up, it is hard work and your motivation will become incredibly importantLeverage your own skills before playing with ideas that you need to spend time learningTrack your progress, Google analytics is free, spreadsheets are free. Use the toolsAvoid spending all your time reading guides and spend more time getting work done

The really nice thing about these ideas and methods is that they will always make money for you even once you are well on your way to riches through your own products and networks these starting points will still generate income for you.

An Article Marketing Strategy that works

I am obviously a strong supporter of article marketing and at least for me it has always been a successful traffic driver to my sites and affiliate pages so I would like to share my tactic or strategy for article marketing with you.
Firstly I do not view article marketing as SEO only or a just another traffic channel, I place it in a bigger box encompassing SEO, Traffic Generation, Lead Generation, Brand or Product awareness and Hype or Buzz Creation. A well planned and executed article campaign should target all of these areas.
Lets assume you have a website or product that needs promotions already and you have article content to use for the promotion campaign. Avoiding the argument of duplicate vs unique content I will only say that my strategy does rely on varied content and you will understand why simply by looking at the diagram.
The idea is straight forward and does not involve any strange concepts, instead the goal is to provide readers with choices and variation without losing the visitor. Most article directories or similar services allow 2-3 outbound links which gives you some flexibility to link back not only to your own site or product but also to other articles you have written related to the content.
A picture is worth a thousand words in this case and I believe that the diagram explains it best but in short you want to create a web of interlinked articles that all ultimately funnel to your primary page or related pages with the preference being shared revenue directories for your alternative links
Article Marketing Tips for the Method
Vary the keywords and anchors used for the linking, I like using long tail keywords in the mix as well but you can focus on your primary keywords if you prefer.Driving traffic to shared revenue platforms adds another income stream to your process, be careful though since you do not want to lose leads to advertisements from your competitorsLeverage the social power of Hubpages & Squidoo to create some hype around your product in addition to the buzz created by flooding content.Do not abuse these services including self maintained services like Blogger or Tumblr since you could get banned and lose all your links and hard work
Of course you can vary this strategy slightly and you always be careful not to cross the line into spam territory, providing well written and informative content is a lot less likely to attract bad attention from site administrators. This article marketing strategy has worked well for me on most projects and can be applied to any number of articles.

Free tools to help understand your link profile

Link building is time consuming and to be honest you will do far better if you can spend your time producing content which generates money so lets look at some free tools to help automate and improve your SEO

The more of your tasks you can automated to more efficient you will become and for those with experience in Internet marketing you will already understand that more often than not we are playing a numbers game. The more content you can produce the more traffic you will be able to generate and convert. Unfortunately there are tasks that need to be completed to make all of this work and building back links can be a time consuming process. Here are some of the tools I use to speed things up.

Checking Links

Link Diagnosis – A great tool which lets you see the value of links and compare anchor texts which will save you a lot of time analyzing you own site but even more time when looking at the competition.Digital Point Backlink checker –  As a free member you are only able to track 20 deep but if you like the tool you probably be more than happy to pay for premium membership and the ability to track links 200 deepWebmaster Tools – Remember that Google, Yahoo, Bing & Yandex all keep track of links as well so don’t forget to have a look there, Alexa is another source of quick back link overviews.

These tools won’t build the links for you but they will definitely cut down on the time you spend researching and understanding your back link profile. Remember that quality back links are worth far more than thousands of spam links so spending a bit of time getting the right back links is important.
